Parts of Windsor Great Park are recognised as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and Special Area of Conservation (SAC), designations awarded only to places of exceptional environmental importance.
The ancient oak trees alone support hundreds of species of insects, birds, fungi, and lichens. Some trees are believed to be over a thousand years old and continue to provide habitats found nowhere else.
