Private Visit to Windsor Castle

The Tradition Today

A Living Windsor Trade

Windsor Carriages began as part of the town’s horse-drawn Hackney Carriage trade, carrying residents and visitors long before the arrival of the motorcar.

The world around it changed. The trade adapted. Today, our horses, historic carriages and professional carriage teams continue to work within modern Windsor, not as a recreation of the past, but as a living tradition given a meaningful role within private visits, significant events, Royal Ascot arrivals and professionally managed itineraries.

More Than a Journey by Carriage

Bringing horses and historic carriages into a busy Royal town and working Estate requires considerably more than arranging a route from one place to another.

Each commission is supported by the licences, permissions, insurance, transport, professional teams and operational planning required to work safely and responsibly in Windsor today.

The carriage may be the most visible chapter, but around it sits careful coordination, personal hosting, storytelling, hospitality and an understanding of how Windsor changes with ceremony, season and Estate life.

How We Host

Windsor is not simply a place to visit. It is a living landscape of Estate life, tradition, ceremony and quiet corners that often reveal themselves best through those who know it well.

Rather than offering fixed tours or standard routes, we shape each experience around the people joining us, their interests, the occasion, the pace of the day and what they most hope to remember.

Some guests join us for an intimate private visit. Others bring families, international clients, leadership teams or an entire gathering of up to 96 guests.

Whatever the scale, our purpose remains the same: to create the time, context and thoughtful hospitality through which Windsor can be properly experienced.

How We Share Our Traditions

Windsor Carriages is privately commissioned for individually planned visits and events, welcoming families, private clients, visiting groups and corporate guests. Each commission brings together our horses and carriages, professional coachmen, personal hosting and the stories inherited through the trade, with hospitality and wider arrangements shaped around your guests. We undertake one private commission per operating day, giving our horses, team and guests the time and care each visit deserves.

A Place Best Experienced Through People

The most memorable experiences rarely come from simply seeing more. They come from understanding more.

Our coachmen, guides, hosts and local specialists connect the Castle, the wider Estate, the horses, the landscape and the traditions that have shaped Windsor across generations.

The result is not a checklist of attractions, but a deeper encounter with the place and the people who continue to give it life.

IN STEP WITH THE ESTATE

Our story forms part of a Windsor carriage tradition formally traced through generations since 1849.

That heritage continues to inform how we work today: with care, discretion, professional standards and an understanding that meaningful experiences are rarely rushed.

Every commission provides real work for the horses, carriages and people whose knowledge keeps the trade alive. This is how the tradition continues—not by standing still, but by remaining useful, relevant and valued within Windsor today.
