Windsor Castle Investiture: How to Make Your Honours Day Truly Memorable

Few moments in British life carry quite the same sense of occasion as a Windsor Castle investiture.

Morning coats, hats carefully boxed in the back seat, champagne waiting for afterwards, and generations of family gathering beneath the Round Tower.

Few occasions in British life carry quite the same sense of occasion.

There are moments in life which deserve more than simply arriving, attending, and leaving again. A Windsor Castle investiture is one of them.

For many guests, the invitation arrives quietly. A cream envelope bearing the Royal crest. A moment of disbelief. Then excitement, family phone calls, and suddenly the realisation that one of the most meaningful days of your life is approaching.

And then come the practical questions.

Where do we stay? Where do we park? How does security work? Where should we celebrate afterwards? How do we make the day feel worthy of the occasion?

At Windsor Carriages, we help guests shape the day around the ceremony itself, ensuring the experience feels seamless, celebratory, and deeply personal from beginning to end.

Whether this is your first visit to Windsor or a return to a place already filled with memories, an investiture deserves more than simply “getting through the logistics.”

It deserves to feel special.

A Day to Celebrate Properly

One of the things many guests do not realise until much later in the planning process is that parking at Windsor Castle is typically reserved for nominees only. Family members and accompanying guests often need separate arrangements, which can add unnecessary stress to what should be an unforgettable day.

Some guests prefer to arrive independently and simply need guidance on where best to park and meet. Others choose to remove the logistics entirely and allow us to coordinate chauffeur transfers and timings throughout the day.

For many, the real joy comes afterwards.

Our hosted investiture experiences are designed to help guests feel entirely looked after, from the practical details through to the celebratory moments that become the lasting memories. At the heart of the experience is traditional carriage travel, guided & hosted, through areas of the Windsor Estate where cars are prohibited, allowing guests to experience Windsor in the manner it was originally intended to be seen.

A Day Years in the Making

This spring, we had the privilege of hosting Bernie and Colin Wright following the announcement of their MBEs in The King’s New Year Honours.

The couple founded Rushmoor Gymnastics Academy in 1974, in the UK, and were recognised for their services to women’s gymnastics after more than fifty years dedicated to the sport and to generations of young people.

Speaking after the announcement, they described the recognition as:

“A huge honour for the club.”

Whether an honour is being received quietly and privately, or by someone already known in the public eye, an investiture represents years — often decades — of dedication, contribution, and service being recognised within one of the most historic settings in Britain.

These are moments which deserve care in how they are experienced and remembered.

Following Bernie and Colin's Windsor Castle investiture, they shared:

“We had the most magnificent time, greatly enhanced by the experience of being wafted along in style by John and Joey (their horse) with your good self in attendance. It really added a huge amount to what was already the experience of a lifetime.Once again, a huge thank you for what was a most unforgettable experience.”

More Than a Ceremony

The ceremony itself may last only a short time.

But the memory of the day lasts forever.

Some guests choose to spend time on the river afterwards with a celebratory drink in hand. Others gather family for a long lunch filled with stories and photographs. Some simply want the reassurance that someone local is quietly handling the details so they can remain fully present for the occasion itself. That is where we come in.

Our in-house photographer can also help capture the day naturally and discreetly, allowing families to remain together in the moment rather than behind their phones.

Long after the medal has been placed and the photographs framed, what people remember most is often how the day felt.

Because honours are not simply awarded in Windsor.

They are remembered there.
